Nick Evangelista has thirty years' experience in fencing and teaching fencing, both in the United States and Europe. He taught at Hollywood's famed Faulkner School from 1973 to 1980, then ran his own Los Angeles-based salle from 1980-1985. In 1985 he moved to a farm in sourthern Missourie, where he reestablished his school. Today, students come from all over the United States to study with him. In addition to formal classical fencing, he has worked in the film industry in front of the camera, as a consultant, and as a fencing coach for actors. He has also done countless public demonstrations and exhibitions of fencing.
Nick Evangelista is author of The Encyclopedia of the Sword (Greenwood Press, 1995) ; The Art and Science of Fencing (Masters Press, 1996); and Fighting with Sticks (Loompanics Unlimited, 1998). His next book, The Fencer's Brain: Pursuing Excellence in Fencing Form, Technique, Strategy, and Spirit, will be published by Masters Press in the fall of 1999. He has had numerous articles published over the years on the sport of fencing, history of swordsmanship ,and swordplay in the movies. He has also been featured in Smithsonian magazine.
Evengelista's The Art and Science of Fencing is one of the top-selling fencing books of all time.
Maestro Evangelista was a long-time student of Olympian and movie fencing master, Ralph Faulkner.
