Seasons Greetings, all.
For anyone whoever got tired of all the descriptions of Aldo Nadi fencing and just wished they could SEE him fence and make their own judgements (although, whoever heard of a fencer who differed with an official call????), here is my present.
This is newsreel footage of the 1934 funeral of Lucien Gaudin, it includes at the end 30+ seconds from the famously disputed (by Nadi) victory of Gaudin in a foil competition.
Description:
1934. French. Coverage of the funeral of Olympic fencer Lucien Gaudin. Included is 30+ seconds of footage from his bout with Aldo Nadi. In making this print they must have "flipped" the negative because Gaudin was well-known as a left-handed fencer.
So in this clip, Nadi is thus the "lefthanded" fencer in white pants and Gaudin the "righthanded" fencer in dark pants.
For some reason they added "crowd noise" to the 1922 (silent) fencing footage. My apologies for the watermark.

Thanks for sharing these.
The clip of the Gaudin - Nadi bout should cause some people to reassess their view of what classical fencing should look like.

To be honest, the whole reason I started searching out and posting these old clips was to take us beyond what people "wrote" and let us see how "they" fenced... Aldo Nadi, Nedo Nadi, Lucien Gaudin, Roger Ducret, Helene Mayer, etc...
